An all-white version of the highly coveted kicks will hit shelves later this month.
The Off-White x Nike Air Jordan 1 “Chicago” that hit shelves in 2017 was one of the most craze-inducing Jordans—and sneakers—of the year, causing instant sellouts and line-ups for raffles and generating resale prices upwards of $1,500. Since then, other Off-White Nikes have continued to roll out, including last week’s Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 exclusive with MoMA in New York City. Now a new Air Jordan 1 with a Virgil Abloh twist has surfaced, along with a release date—February 27.
The new take on the sneaker, which originally debuted as part of the Off-White Fall-Winter 2018 runway show in Paris, is an all-white iteration with the same details as last year’s model—orange tab under the Swoosh, a zip tie, and “AIR” on the midsole. During a talk at the shoe’s launch in New York City last September, Abloh revealed that the all-white version was actually the original idea for the shoe as part of last year’s “The Ten” collection, but was swapped out for the more iconic “Chicago” colorway. In its stark white version, the sneaker is stripped down to its barest essentials. But we’re pretty sure it’ll still manage to garner attention without a recognizable colorway: Adding details that bring a shoe from everyday to “Holy cow, I need it right now” is what Abloh does best.
The shoes are set to drop on February 27. This is where, for U.S. customers, the good news ends. For now, the shoes are a European exclusive, but we doubt it’ll stay that way for long. Stay tuned for more news on when these sneakers are set to drop Stateside.
