Every day we give you inspiration and advice on What to Wear Today. This month we’re focusing on fall outfits that will make you look your absolute fly-est. Up today: a Saturday night look that doesn’t involve a stiff leather jacket or the vacation shirt you wore all summer (it’s time to give that staple a weekend off).
There’s a right time and place to turn up the volume on your wardrobe and it’s called Saturday night. When your boss is nowhere to be seen and you’ve got a bullseye on having a good time you should be channeling your inner style rebel. For some guys, that might mean a slim suit and pointy boots. For most, it’ll mean a slightly “extra” shirt and some really good jeans. Iman Shumpert in the pages of GQ is proof that the combo can be exciting, even though it’s casual and comfortable. You’d definitely spot his Alexander Wang leopard sweater and John Elliott jeans from all the way across the bar—and we mean that in a good way.
Over-the-top intarsia knitwear is everywhere right now, and you can take your pick of patterns and motifs. That said, a neutral color animal pattern, like the one Iman Shumpert has on here, will always be a good choice. There’s something very rock ‘n’ roll about a man in leopard print. If you have the dough to shell out for one in a luxe fabric like alpaca or cashmere, even better. Wacky prints and patterns on cheap fabrics don’t translate quite as well as those that are made with intention and care. To that end, here are a few elevated leopard print sweaters on shelves right now with “big night out” written all over them. We trust you own a perfect pair of slim-cut jeans but if not, John Elliott has you covered (everything except your knees, at least).
