Though he made his name and fortune wearing cleats, A-Rod’s second career as a businessman (and J-Lo’s +1) demands an entirely different kind of uniform. And he’s been pretty tremendous transitioning out of pinstripes. Think: cashmere turtlenecks, irresponsibly luxurious boots, and billionaire-grade suits among other polished staples. During the holidays A-Rod stepped out in a plaid topcoat, one of our favorite trends for office-bound guys right now. The baseball legend has demonstrated his skill with the staple before but this particular topper, with its assertive glen plaid pattern and bold collar detail, set the bar a little higher. It fit him perfectly, but it also elevated his gray trousers and white shirt from middle-management to “head badass in charge”—or “CEO of A-ROD Corp.” If your work wardrobe could use some assertiveness, this is the direction to turn.
The good news is, while A-Rod has a soft spot for clothing that costs tens of thousands of dollars, this particular coat comes in just under $1,000. It’s a collaboration between American designer Todd Snyder and British heritage brand Private White V.C. and is made from Italian wool and cashmere, which means it’ll last you far longer than one winter. That detail is key, because while plaid coats are a trend right now, they never, ever go out of style. Like a navy suit or pair of black trousers, you’ll be glad to have something like this in your business casual lineup—especially when you need to prove that you can hit cleanup at work.
